Here are some stories that I have written about stuff that I've found so fascinating
that I could not keep myself from writing stories about them. These stories have
nothing to do with my life or my family and friends. So I've put them on this page.
I realize hat what I find fascinating may be of no interest to anyone else.
I like these stories because they give my little brain something to think about. .

A TIME TO GRIEVE
My sister sent me this when I was going through the worst time of my life.
I'm thinking I should share it with my Hillcrest friends. I personally thought it
very meaningful..... It helped me a lot.
Norbert Tackman explained that his wife had died after 49 wonderful years
and when a good friend's husband passed away, leaving her consumed by grief,
he felt the need to help her so he wrote her this letter.
______________________________________________________________
What could have been is gone. What was, is still in your memories. You will always
think there must have been more you could have done. More times you could have said
"I love you." Times you think "Why didn't I hold him more? Why didn't I do this or that?"
You did all those things. You just need to remember them.
Remember the times you held hands as you walked. When you held one another and
kissed. When you shared a sunset or a walk through a garden. Remember that great
vacation you had together. Remember when you made love and shared that special time.
Remember how your love never dimmed but got stronger over the years.
Remember when you first met and fell in love. Then go through your life remembering
the special moments, one after another. When you had children. When you laughed or cried.
That trip to get away. Visiting friends. A party. Going to church. When you redecorated
the house. Little things that only you and he shared.
Push out of your mind the memories that make you sad and replace them immediately
with good memories. Something that makes you smile.
In the weeks after his passing, the relatives go on with their lives. Your friends don't call
as often and you're left alone. This is the time to be more involved in your favorite
organizations, your church, your friends, in other words, keep busy. Be with other people.
Push yourself to do things, no matter how small. Don't feel sorry for yourself......You have
so much to offer to others and your fellowship will give back twice as much to you.
There's nothing wrong with crying. It's part of the loss. It's part of the grief. Accept the
aching need to have him back and tell him you love him. And always remember to say ,
"What a good life we had."
He knew you loved him and cared about him. just as you knew he loved you and cared
about you.
Remember, he is watching over you. He doesn't want you to suffer. He wants you to be
happy for all the time you had together. God Bless You.

TURKISH ICE-CREAM VENDORS
I found a dozen little videos on the internet showing Turkish ice-cream vendors
entertaining their customers and everyone is having so much fun, but I'm thinking,
How can this happen in a country like Turkey?
Our leaders tell us that Turkey is our enemy because Turkey is 99% Muslim and
of Islamic faith, worshiping Allah. These people seem to be so happy and friendly.......
How could they be our enemy? Why would we want to drop bombs on them?
I made a little video showing some of this and put it on youtube.

OUR UNIVERSE
I was recently reading about what our scientists are finding out about
the universe we are living in by focusing the Hubble Space Telescope on a little
spot in space where there is nothing visible and leaving it there for ten days ......
recording everything as a video.
Since light travels at 186,000 miles a second, after ten days they can see
something far, far away. I don't know how many seconds there are in ten days ....
but if I multiply that number by 186,000, I will know how many miles away they
are looking. And what did they see from that distance ? .....They saw exactly
what we see outside our own Millky-way galaxy ......countless other galaxies.
This is way too much for my little brain to comprehend ..... But I can look at
it this way.
Our Earth is ..........one of 9 planets revolving around our sun.
Our Sun is ...........one of over 100 billion suns in our galaxy.
Our Galaxy is .......one of over 1oo billion galaxies in our universe.
Now .... After considering all the different physical requirements for a
civilization such as ours. I'm thinking that there must be at least one billion other
civilized societies such as ours in this universe. And wouldn't it be nice if we could
know about them and make friends with them.
Now........ Here is something else that bothers my poor little brain .......
Our Scientists have given us this ........

WHO WAS EMELIE DU-CHATELET ?
During my research into the fascinating works of Albert Einstein, I came
across this name several times, So naturally I had to find out who this lady was
and why Einstein thought so much of her. I am amazed that I had never heard
of her before I want to tell you a little about her.
Emilie was born into a high class French family in the early 1700's. One
evening when she was ten years old she was reading a book in the same room
where her dad was entertaining a group of scientist friends who were discussing
a somewhat complicated formula for solving a deep mathematical equation. To
the amazement of the group of scientists she interrupted their conversation with
the exact numerical answer to the equation. Upon confirming that she was
absolutely correct, the scientists informed her dad of her great natural mathe-
amatical ability and urged him to send her to study at the highest French Academy
of Sciences where she excelled in astronomy. mathematics, and physics.
A truly brilliant mind. When she was twelve years old she was fluent in Latin,
Italian, Greek, and German. She associated and corresponded with all the great
scientists of the world and loved the challenge of learning from them.
Emilie was the first to question Isaac Newton's famous law of motion. A
Dutchman was testing Newton's theory of motion by dropping a brass ball into
soft clay and found that if the ball was dropped from twice the height, it would
penetrate the clay four times as far,...... not twice as far. (as per Newton's
formula, E=MV. So Emilie conducted her own experiments and concluded that
the correct formula would be E= MV2. (energy equals mass times speed, squared).
Einstein agreed with her. This is just one of many contributions she made to our
scientific knowledge.
Her marriage at nineteen to a much older nobleman was prearranged, as was
the custom at that time and because her husband spent most of his time as a
diplomat in foreign countries, she had several boyfriends including the well-known
physicist Voltaire. All this with the approval of her tolerant husband. It was like
one big family.
Emilie and her husband had three children. She died at the age of forty-two
while giving birth to another child, as a result of an affair with the poet, Saint-Lambert.
Now.........I'm thinking, Why have I never heard of this brilliant lady scientist?
Maybe it's because she was a woman and not a man. The great forefathers of our
great nation would say she was a myth and did not exist because they believed that
women are mentally inferior to men and should never be allowed to vote.

The GREAT PYRAMID of GIZA
My nephew, Tom, sent me a youtube link to this and I became so hooked on it that I
spent half my time for a week finding out more about it.
Can you imagine something so huge that was built almost five thousand years ago
with such precision that our current technology cannot replicate it or figure out how it
was done. There are so many almost unbelievable facts about this pyramid that it baffles
all of our present day archaeologists, scientists, and astronomers ...... and me too

ANOTHER GREAT FIND ....... OUR UNIVERSE
With nothing much to do ...... I keep going through old papers and photos from long
ago and am continuously reminded of how much these things meant to me at one time
in my life. I found this little scrap of print which I had cut out of a paperback written by
J.W.N. Sullivan in 1933 ..... It is a brief summary of the universe we live in.
I typed it out to make it easier to read ..........

Surveying the universe presented by modern astronomy, we see that the vast
majority of the bodies in it seem to exist without any reference to life and consciousness.
The vast extent of the universe, both in space and in time, is, from the human
point of view, completely aimless. Those immense lumps of matter in their billions of
billions, incessantly pouring out an inconceivably furious energy for billions of billions of
years, seem to be completely pointless.
For a fleeting moment, man has been permitted to stare at this gigantic and
meaningless display. Long before the process comes to an end, man will have vanished
from the scene and the rest of the performance will take place in the unthinkable night
of the absence of all consciousness.
This revelation is startling, and it is still more startling, almost incredible, when we
reflect that this amazing panorama sprang suddenly into existence a finite time ago,
It emerged full-armed out of nothing, apparently for the sole purpose of blazing it's way
to an eternal death.
This is the scientific account. It seems to be true, but we cannot believe that it is the
whole truth. We prefer to believe that the present scientific method has its limitations.

KARAKORAM HIGHWAY
I had never heard of it until a friend sent me an email link to it and since
then I've been so fascinated by it that I spent a bunch of my not so valuable
time researching it. They call it ..... The 8th Wonder of the World. And I agree.
The complete Karakoram Highway is 807 miles in length and connects
China and Pakistan thru the formidable Karakoram mountain range. It was
built in the 1960s and 70s to promote trade and was named .
... The China
Pakastan Friendship Highway. It is one of the highest paved roads in the
world ...... Over 15,000 Ft. at places. An unbelievable twenty miles of
tunnels and bridges.
Over one thousand workers from both China and Pakistan lost their
lives to landslides and falls during construction. Memorial graveyards were
built along the way for burial. Although some of it is still considered
dangerous, it has become a tourist attraction for the young and the brave.
There are a lot of Youtube videos of this which you can easily view
but here are a few photos to give you an idea of this wonderful 8th Wonder
of the World.
